What We Can Do
Materials. Combed cotton for standard hotel and retail programs. Long-staple cotton for low-lint luxury applications. Bamboo-cotton blends for softness-driven brands. Organic cotton for GOTS-certified lines.
Weight range. 300–400 GSM for economy hotel and gym — light, fast-drying. 400–500 GSM for standard hotel programs — balanced absorbency, shorter drying time than a bath towel at the same GSM. 500–550 GSM for premium retail and luxury properties — dense, plush hand feel. A hand towel at a given GSM typically absorbs proportionally less than a bath towel of the same weight because the smaller surface area limits contact with water — GSM here is more about perceived quality than raw absorbency.
Weave construction. Terry — loop pile, one or both sides. Zero-twist terry — softer, more absorbent loops. Velour — sheared face for a smooth decorative finish, common in guest-facing bathrooms. Dobby border — woven hem detail. Jacquard — woven patterns or brand logos.
Sizes. Standard: 16×28″ to 18×30″. Hotel-specific and custom dimensions.
Color. Pantone-matched dyeing. Solid colors, dobby border accents. White standard for hotel — chlorine bleach compatible.
Packaging. Set-pack with bath and face towels. Individual retail packaging. Bulk hotel packaging. Woven labels or heat-transfer logo.
Material Selection: The Guest-Facing Towel
A hand towel sits next to the sink. It’s the first towel a guest sees entering the bathroom and the last one they touch. It’s also the most photographed towel in hotel reviews — suspended on a ring or folded on the vanity, not hidden behind a shower door. Its aesthetic condition matters more than its absorbency.
Hotels — small piece, high turnover
A hand towel in a hotel bathroom changes at least once a day — more often than a bath towel in many properties. The laundry volume is high, and replacement frequency is driven by visible staining and hem wear more than by absorbency loss.
Combed cotton at 400–500 GSM is the standard — good hand feel, acceptable drying time, consistent hem after repeated washes. White or ivory for bleach compatibility. A dobby border adds visual structure without the cost of full jacquard — a small detail that elevates the vanity photo without adding per-room cost.
Long-staple cotton at 500–550 GSM enters luxury territory — lower lint, denser loop, more substantial drape on the towel ring. The cost increment per piece is small enough that a five-star property can justify it across the entire bathroom set. Low linting is the practical advantage — a long-staple hand towel leaves less fiber dust on the dark stone vanity tops common in luxury bathrooms.
Retail and DTC — the set anchor
A hand towel is almost never bought alone — it’s part of a set with bath and face towels. But it’s often the piece the customer touches first when browsing a display or unboxing a shipment. The in-store or at-home hand feel of the hand towel influences perception of the entire set.
Combed cotton zero-twist at 450–550 GSM gives a full, plush hand feel at a lower price point than long-staple. Velour finish on the display face adds a visual upgrade that photographs well.
Quality Control and Service
Sampling. Material and weave confirmed → pre-production sample in 7–10 days. Approved → bulk production in 25–35 days.
Inspection. Third-party inspection (SGS, Intertek) available. QC focus: GSM tolerance, hem consistency, color matching to the coordinating bath towel, and lint assessment — a hand towel resting on a dark vanity makes lint immediately visible.
Testing standards:
- GSM tolerance: ±3%
- Absorbency: AATCC 79 — under 5 seconds after 3 washes
- Linting: Visual assessment after 3 and 10 wash cycles
- Colorfastness: AATCC 8 ≥ Grade 4, AATCC 61 ≥ Grade 4
- Shrinkage: < 6% first wash, < 2% thereafter
- Chemical safety: OEKO-TEX Standard 100 — available on request
MOQ: Why the Number Is What It Is
Standard MOQ is 500 pcs per colorway, minimum 200 pcs per design.
Dye formulation and yarn preparation set the floor. Orders close to the threshold can work with a transparent cost discussion. Above 3,000 pcs per color, unit cost steps down from batch efficiency.
